PSBL June Newsletter

Plaistow South Big Local Community ENews

I hope you enjoyed the Jubilee weekend and the extra bank holiday.
There were many parties and events to attend including the wonderful street party we supported residents to organise in Woodside Road – see the photo!  It was fitting that the Jubilee celebrations all took place in Volunteers’ Week as we know that community events and projects rely on volunteers.

This month we are celebrating Fathers Day and Men’s Health Week. June also observes Glad To Care week to show appreciation for the extraordinary contributions of care workers to the lives of recipients of care and their families.

Hoping you have a great month of June and can get involved in activities and projects happening in Plaistow.

Hoping to keep in touch with you on our Social Media: LinkedIn,  InstagramFacebookTwitter

Eid Party

Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in with the fun!
Digital Champions – ‘I can show you how to book swimming sessions but need help to book a Doctor’s appointment’
11 people joined our second digital champion training session on 26th June.
Digital Champions is about learning skills and sharing what you know.  Most people were elders, not all, and may from Rowntree Clifford Close next door. Everyone realized that they are losing out and need to learn skills.
Patricia was able to show someone how to book up classes at the Leisure Centre and Jess was able to show her how to register with the NHS and book a Doctor’s appointment.
It was held in the Plus Centre in Memorial Community Church (where our new office is based) which provides digital help every Saturday from 5.30-7.30.

We do like to be beside the seaside!

PSBL is delighted to have been able to part fund along with CWU & Romford Royal Mail Carers a day trip to Folkestone for local Elders.
Thank you to Drop In Bereavement Group for organising what we are sure will be a fantastic day out!
Looking forward to the photos and don’t forget your stick of rock!
Home grown plants & stalls a plenty!
Moving to our new office at Memorial Community Church has been a positive experience with so many around to help.
It has been really good to find out more about the Church’s facilities to hire and to meet all the people & groups operating from there.
Denny managed to add the finishing touches to the move when she visited the Memorial Spring fair and purchased some home grown plants from one of the many stalls.
Good Food, Good Company, Good weather…….Wonderful Jubilee Party!
PSBL is delighted to have partnered with the wonderful residents of Woodside Road on Friday to put on their Jubilee Street Party. Fun was definitely had by all.
We had visits from two Plaistow Councillors – Jane Lofthouse and Neil Wilson, the Police who took part in our Royal Quiz.
Adults & kids alike enjoyed the Fire Brigade visit –Many thanks to the team of blue watch Plaistow and it’s not a party without ice cream so yes, the ice cream van was also in attendance.
Big Thanks to all who attended, helped, cooked or came to visit and to Newham Council for providing the funding!
