Join the Green Gym volunteers at the Greenway Orchard!

The Greenway Orchard is just by the Boundary Road entrance on the stretch that runs along to Prince Regent Lane. That little patch is looked after by Green Gym volunteers.  They work there on Thursday mornings between 11 and 2 and everyone is welcome to help whether or not you plan to do it regularly or now and again, when you can. PSBL has been involved in supporting the Greenway Orchard Green Gym from the start and is offering ongoing support, including with financial help.

Being involved with nature, doing some gardening (it can be very light), and volunteering is so good for well-being!

The Greenway Community Orchard is a beautiful, wild space with native fruit trees, native shrubs and flowers, bug hotels, places to sit, bird & bat boxes, raised beds for fruit and veg and much more.  There’s things to forage and the food and fruit is to share. You can just turn up or email the Green Gym greenwayorchardgg@gmail.com or ring Denny (PSBL) on 07472 680636. Here’s a google pin to show the location

In 2021 despite Covid there were the weekly volunteer sessions, 3 popular Foraging Walks while observing the rule of 6, and legacy trees planted including walnut, Chestnut and mulberry (funded by PSBL) and some outdoor mindfulness sessions.

The Green Gym was successful in gaining strong community support to get a Citizen Assembly grant of £19.000 and are planning for 2022 to install benches, create a compacted and better pathway, and buy new tools, including an extra strimmer.

The Green Gym and PSBL have been in touch with Newham Hospital staff to work out ways to involve staff and patients in gardening and using the Orchard. There’s plans to open up a gate to the hospital car park to enable staff and patients to access their nearest green space
